April Training Session
Dear friends of Think OutWord,
37 young people gathered last weekend in Great Barrington, MA, to explore "Right Relationships in the Economic Organism" with Susan Witt of the E. F. Schumacher Society. That was the second session of Think OutWord. We're now officially two sessions old! Amazingly enough, the gesture of the group is already radically different. At the first session everything was new – no one knew what to expect nor was anyone yet committed (except for the planners). We rightly spent all of our time meeting each other and exploring the theme of Social Threefolding. But now things have already shifted. We're still focusing inward on the group itself, but now looking at it more as a vessel – trying to determine how we want to build it and where we want it to take us. Much of this shift is due to how the group has already taken up the material. Many people spent the two months between sessions working with a shared curriculum and dialoguing in the online classroom. On top of all the busyness of the group work, 12 members also worked up their own presentations around themes that ranged from inner work and Goethean conversation to individual social innovators and more macrocosmic conventional, alternative, and Steinerian economic models. So there's been some pretty amazing participation. From here we're focused on working in two ways. Nicanor's course is coming up in two and a half months. As preparation for it we're planning to break up into smaller groups to read "Philosophy of Freedom" as well as selections from Nicanor's book "Shaping Globalization." Besides that, a number of members are also creating independent projects for themselves - seeking out partners, mentors and smaller "focus groups" to actively support each other's work. I'll give updates on the progress of these projects as they unfold in the hope that anyone receiving this email might be interested in acting as a mentor or might know of others with such an interest. Also, feedback of any kind is always hugely appreciated. It strengthens us to know there are a number of people out there who are actively following what we're doing and urging us on. Seth Jordan
