In all aspects of modern social life, from wall street to the white house, truth with a capital “t” is getting more and more difficult to gauge. Propaganda, cliché, and empty phrases dominate our mainstream airways, headlines and the rest of the information landscape.  And to make matters worse, these dinky skeletons of truth and falsity are upheld by secrecy and deception from those in positions of power and authority. So how do we discern objective truth in this climate?  How can we trust and believe that what a person, newspaper, website, etc is saying is true?   How do we react and respond to phenomena as presented and as we perceive it? “…What must be done so that social life and forms are consciously established in opposition to anti-social forces? What is really required?” - Rudolf Steiner.

At Think OutWord’s 4th February Conference, we will explore Truth (and falsity) as they meet us in the world; how we receive and respond to them inside and out; and how to act in the name of Truth. Our primary focus will be to explore these questions in an open, methodological manner, examining controversial and volatile issues in our contemporary age (9/11, the bailout, GMOs, Iraq, US breaches of international law, etc.) and creating a space for free inquiry into these topics, which are too often met with intolerance. Together we will investigate how the human spirit approaches creative moral action, in various forms of resistance and social movements in the past, present and future.

  • Cost: Think OutWord conferences are financially supported by free gifts from participants and others who donate to our work. If every attendee donates $50 – $100 we would be able to cover the costs of our next conference. Please contact us with any questions.
  • Pre-Reading: The planning group has put together 3 short, relevant pieces by Rudolf Steiner that will help provide a foundation for our work together. Please do your best to complete the reading in advance of the conference.

  • Miscellaneous: Please bring a sleeping bag and mat as some people might end up on floors and couches (let usk now if this sounds too basic to meet your needs and we’ll work something else out).
